Bridging Cultures, Healing People: How A Japanese Naval Surgeon and Rural Minnesota Doctor Connected over Patient Care In-Person / Online

Two physicians, of vastly different backgrounds met and found common ground in their approach to patient care. In 1906, Baron Takaki came to Rochester, and a year later, at 89 years old, Dr. William Worrall Mayo travelled to Japan. In this session, participants will gain insight into the relationship between these two physicians as well as Baron Takaki’s medical advances in treating Beri Beri disease.

Our lecturers for the evening are Kazuki Sumiyama, M.D., Ph.D. from Jikei University School of Medicine in Minato, Japan and Jamie Newman, M.D., M.H.A. from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
