Please join us for our next History of Medicine Society Lecture featuring presenter Bobbi Pritt, M.D. M.Sc., DTMH, FCAP.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory has a long and distinguished history at Mayo Clinic, marked by the development of ground-breaking new culture techniques, immunoassays, and molecular methods to detect, identify and characterize microbial pathogens and provide guidance for their treatment. Along the way, Mayo Clinic microbiologists took on many challenges, from deadly pandemics, to bioterrorist threats and imported pathogens. This engaging presentation will explore the critical milestones, significant breakthroughs, and fascinating stories that highlight the evolution and impact of Mayo Clinic's clinical microbiology laboratory. 

Dr. Bobbi Pritt is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, where she serves as the Chair of the Division of Clinical Microbiology and Medical Director of the Clinical Parasitology laboratory. She completed her medical training at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, followed by a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. She then completed a fellowship in medical microbiology at Mayo Clinic She also holds a master's degree in Medical Parasitology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in England. Dr. Pritt’s main areas of interest are medical parasitology, vector-borne diseases, infectious diseases pathology, and medical education. She has published more than 220 manuscripts on these topics, as well as 4 books and 36 book chapter. She shares her passion for medical parasitology in her internationally acclaimed parasite case blog, “Creepy Dreadful Wonderful Parasites” and on social media (@ParasiteGal). She also hosts a weekly laboratory leadership podcast called “Answers from the Lab”.
